Hello Friend!
My name is Mylissa. I’m a wife, a mother, a Mimi, and — in the way grief rearranges every title we hold — I’m also a mom who has buried two sons. My son Luke was 29. My son Nate was 19. Their lives, and their deaths, are the soil this whole space grows out of.
For a long time, I didn’t have language for what I was carrying. I just knew that grief didn’t move in a straight line, and it didn’t end at a “stopping point” the way so many people expected it to. What I discovered instead is that grief is soil. It’s dark, it’s heavy, it’s disorienting — and it is also, somehow, the very place where new life takes root. That’s the heart of everything I do here: grief is soil, not a stopping point.
Why I started this
I started Blooming Through Grief because I needed it to exist, and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I needed a place that didn’t rush me toward silver linings, didn’t hand me a five-step plan, and didn’t quote a Bible verse and call it closed. I needed someone to walk alongside me — not ahead of me, pulling me forward, and not behind me, pushing. Just alongside.
That’s the kind of companion I try to be for the moms and families I coach now. Not a guide who has it all figured out, but someone who has stood in the same dark soil and knows, firsthand, that something can still grow there.
What you’ll find here
This blog — and the coaching, and the podcast I co-host with my dear friend Jen, Grief, Grace, and the Glow Up — are all extensions of the same conviction: your grief is not too much, too messy, or too long. It’s not a problem to be solved. It’s a season to be tended.
Here, you’ll find:
- Honest reflections on loss, faith, and what it means to keep living
- Encouragement for the hard anniversaries and the ordinary Tuesdays
- A community that won’t rush you, judge you, or ask you to move on
- Real talk about grief woven into real life — motherhood, marriage, faith, and even the everyday moments that make us laugh again
You’re not alone in this soil
If you’re here because you loved someone fiercely and lost them, I want you to know something before you read another word: you are not alone, and you are not too broken to bloom again. It might not look like it did before. It might take longer than anyone around you expects. But bloom from the broken places — that’s not just a tagline for me. It’s a promise I’ve watched come true in my own life, one small, stubborn season at a time.
I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s grow through this together.
